Kenya is home to some of the best national parks and reserves in Africa. Experience the migrating safari in the world-renowned Masai Mara. Capture the large population of wildebeests and zebras as they march their way from Tanzania and witness thousands of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles taking the life-threatening plunge into the Mara River, infested with hungry Nile crocodiles.

Ever heard of gerenuks? Visit the Samburu National Reserve and chance upon these odd-looking gazelles with long necks and stand on their hind legs to feed. Along with the oryx, reticulated giraffe and grevy’s zebra, these rare species thrive only in the dry north of Kenya.

Witness a river turn pink with flamingoes flocking to the shores of Lake Nakuru, along with 450 other species of birds. Set on the Rift Valley Province it is where the rivers of Njoro, Makalia and Enderit converge. Not far along lies Lake Naivasha, with over 400 different species of birds, this is truly a birdwatcher’s paradise. Catch the great cormorant, fish eagles, pied kingfishers and black herons.

Best Time to Visit

July to October are the country’s coolest months and it coincides with the classic safari season when the famed annual migration takes place. It is a spectacle to behold.

The hotter months from December to March can be considered a good time, as the animals tend to congregate at the waterholes, making them easier to spot.
