Touch down in Santiago, the capital city of Chile. After your arrival, transfer to your accommodation and relax after your long flight.
Begin your city tour of Santiago from the plaza in front of La Moneda, a neoclassical-style government palace. Visit Plaza de Armas where you will find historical buildings such as the Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral, Central Post Office, and National History Museum. Continue to Cousiño Palace, a lavishly decorated mansion that offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the wealthy Cousiño-Goyenechea family in the late 19th century.
In the afternoon, ascend to San Cristobal Hill by a cable car for a panoramic view of the city and the impressive Andes Mountain range. Crowning the hill is the statue of Virgin Mary that overlooks Santiago. Afterwards, descend the hill by the funicular.
Transfer to Santiago Airport and board a charter flight to Puerto Williams. On arrival, transfer to your accommodation and unwind, preparing for the discoveries ahead
Take a charter flight from Puerto Williams to King George Island. As the largest of all the South Shetland Islands, King George is considered the gateway to Antarctica.
Adelie, Chinstrap, and Gentoo Penguins all commute to and from the Antarctic Peninsula from the island, while Weddell and leopard seals are regular visitors and can be spotted either in the water or on the shore. Naturally, this brings a huge amount of birdlife: skuas and southern giant petrels are regular summer residents.
Cruise through the Antarctic Sound, where immense ice slabs from the Larsen Ice Shelf create a dramatic frozen seascape. Admire towering icebergs adrift in the channel, watch bustling colonies of Gentoo penguins along the shores, and see cape petrels sweeping overhead – an awe-inspiring encounter with Antarctica’s raw beauty and thriving wildlife.
The Antarctic Peninsula offers many travelers their first glimpse of Earth’s least-explored continent. Unseen until 1820, this dramatic realm unveils towering icebergs, shimmering glaciers, and snow-capped peaks. Navigate by Zodiac to witness cathedral-sized ice formations, step ashore among thriving colonies of Adelie penguins, and feel the thrill of exploring a pristine wilderness where scientific bases push the frontiers of discovery.
The South Shetland Islands, just off the Antarctic Peninsula, are home to bustling colonies of Gentoo, Chinstrap, and Adelie penguins, as well as elephant seals. King George Island hosts year-round research stations, while Deception Island invites exploration inside its spectacular volcanic caldera, where you can hike lunar-like landscapes and even dip into geothermally heated waters. Nearby Elephant Island is forever tied to Ernest Shackleton’s legendary Endurance survival story, adding history to this remote wilderness.
After disembarkation from the cruise, we will return to Puerto Williams by a charter flight. Check into your accommodation and enjoy a peaceful afternoon to relax after your cruise journey.
Take a charter flight back to Santiago Airport, where you will connect to your onward flight.
