Experience a passionate epicurean journey like no other, discovering the greatest natural wonders of the Great Britain while you are accommodated in the finest designer suites of the Britannic Explorer. This rail journey will take you across the undulating hills and peaks of the Lake District with its historic grand estates, crossing across the picturesque Cotswolds into the varied Welsh terrains that has earned the nickname as The Land of the Red Dragon. While onboard the Britannic Explorer, you will indulge in the curated dining courtesy of the iconic chef Simon Rogan, whose innovative and exceptional restaurants hold a collective ten Michelin stars worldwide!
This journey departs on a Friday afternoon and concludes on a Thursday morning. Train schedule is subject to national railway regulation and timings are indicative.
Step aboard the Britannic Explorer at London Victoria Station, where you will be wished across the picturesque landscapes of Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire into the Lake District. Onboard the train, you will be treated to exquisite dining experience courtesy of Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan and Executive Chef Sven-Hanson Britt. Inspired by Chef Simon Rogan’s Cumbrian heritage, you will enjoy a curated Cumbrian Afternoon Tea experience followed by sumptuous dinner with local, seasonal ingredients. Thereafter, you may head to the Observation Car for a dance accompanied by music before retreating to your suite for a good sleep.
Today’s journey will take you through the enchanting Yorkshire Dales National Park and Cumbria’s southern coast with a view of the shimmering Irish Sea in the distance. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Workington, your gateway to the Lake District. Our chauffeur will take you to the private quarters of Lingholm Estate which are opened exclusively to guests of the Brittanic Explorer. Lingolm Estate is a Grade II listed Victorian mansion where Beatrix Potter once spent her idyllic summers. Try your hand at canoeing and paddleboarding on Derwentwater Lake, or meet the delightful local alpacas in the English lawn. Thereafter, you will reboard the train at Penrith for another taste of seasonal British fine dining with lively onboard evening. The train will rest overnight on the scenic Settle & Carlisle line in the charming rural market town of Appleby.
Farm Dining at Cartmel Valley
Rise this morning with a leisurely brunch with a freshly crafted Bellini as the train glides across the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct into the Cartmel Valley, where you will disembark for an extended tour and unique sustainable dining experience at Simon Rogan’s regenerative farm. After re-embarking, the train will settle amongst the patchworks of Cotswolds just beyond the lights of London.
This morning, the train will glide through Oxfordshire and the Chilterns into London to collect more passengers. You will have some free time to explore the local area, perhaps heading the elegant The Cadogan for a glass of English sparkling wine on their terrace (own expense).
In the afternoon, the train will commence towards Wales via the enchanting scenery of Cotswolds. Onboard the train, you will enjoy a curated afternoon tea of Welsh teacakes and traditional bara brith fruit cake.
After a leisurely breakfast as the train speeds through the Pembrokeshire coastline, you will disembark at Llandrindod Wells for a choice of a guided hike through the remote valleys of Welsh heartlands, or a visit to a Welsh lavender farm. Thereafter, you will rejoin the train as we journey through the Heart of Wales Line, passing by the rural uplands of Carmarthenshire and Powys into Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). As the night falls, we disembark for a wellness fire ceremony before resting near the seaside town of Barmouth.
After a delicious brunch with fresh mimosa, we arrive in the vibrant Machynlleth at the southern edge of Snowdonia, where you can choose to engage in an art class and theatre performance, or experience a clay pigeon shooting activity. Lunch will be served onboard the train as we glides across the lush Mid Wales and Montgomeryshire, through the Welshpool before crossing the border into Shropshire. Finally, we unwind at Moreton-in-Marsh with its charming “chocolate box” cottages for an exclusive party in The Fox in Oddington, a 16th century pub offering tasty homemade English fares, where you will also get a chance to learn the art of pouring the perfect pint.
