Nestled in the heart of central Europe, Austria is a small country with great treasures for all travelers. Bordered by Switzerland and Germany in the west, Czech Republic in the north, Slovakia and Hungary in the east, and Slovenia in the south, Vienna, the lovely capital of Austria, is inevitably a gateway for travelers to connect to other European cities.
Like most European countries, Austria has undergone a very eventful history for the past centuries. In the Middle Ages, one of the most important royal families of medieval Europe, House of Habsburg, once made Austria their powerful centre of their nearly seven-hundred-year rule. Its wealth and influence have drawn a great variety of notable artists and talented composers together. Relive the glorious history through the magnificent collection of baroque palaces and churches in Vienna, soak up melodic vibe in Salzburg with its rich musical heritage, stroll down the streets of Baroque and Gothic architecture in the old-world charms of Innsbruck.
For those who enjoy the untouched beauty of natural landscapes, Austria does not disappoint with its combination of glittering lakes and rolling mountains. Travel beyond the well-trodden Hallstatt to visit spots beloved by the locals like Lünersee Lake and Schiederweiher Lake. Encounter awe-inspiring sceneries on hikes through the Austrian Alps from serene rivers and lakes to captivating gorges, canyons and waterfalls. Whatever you wish to explore in this gorgeous country, Intriq Journey helps you create a memorable and hassle-free journey best suited to your tastes and needs.
Summer is one of the busiest times to visit Austria, with the best weather especially for hitting the mountains and the lakes. To avoid crowds, we recommend travelling in spring and fall – the weather is generally enjoyable, festivities create a vibrant atmosphere in many towns and villages and most tourist attractions are open. Note that some ski resorts close for a couple of months between summer and winter for refurbishment! Winter can also be a delightful time to be in Austria for the Christmas markets, classical concerts and excellent skiing in the alps.
