Though belonging to Africa, Seychelles does not lie on the mainland of Africa. The tropical island is located between the east coast of Africa and the western Indian Ocean, formed by 115 islands, with 41 inner granite islands and 74 low-lying coral atolls and reef islets. This paradise for beach-and-sun-lovers with blue sea and white sand offers a series of activities, from water sports to boat charters. Once under the rule of Britain and France, Seychelles has a colourful mix of people and cultures where you can experience genuine Creole hospitality.

Mahe is the largest island and home to the capital of Victoria, the economic and cultural heart that showcases a diverse background, from Victorian architecture to Hindu temples. Beyond the city is a natural paradise, with excellent hiking trails, botanic gardens, and luxury resorts with their own quiet stretch of brilliant white beaches. Praslin Island is home to one of two UNESCO Heritage Sites in the Seychelles – the Vallee de Mai also known as the “Garden of Eden”. Here, you find the world’s largest nut, the coco de mer, and the Seychelles Black Parrot, both Endemic to this island nation. Do not miss out the iconic Anse Lazio Beach too! Famous for its Jurassic mountain cliffs, Silhouette Island plays a critical role in maintaining its biodiversity and highly regarded by conservationists. The picturesque car-free La Digue Island is known for its laid-back vibe, with historic plantations and pretty beaches Grand Anse and Anse Source d’Argent, where pink granite rocks are strewn along the coastline.

Best Time to Visit

Lying 4°-11° south of the Equator, the Seychelles has a tropical climate that is influenced by two prevailing trade winds – the winds blow from the southeast between May and September, bringing drier and cooler weather, while the northwest trade winds between October and April brings more humidity and warmer weather. Mid-December to February also sees higher rainfall. While the Seychelles is generally a year-round destination, we would pick the months of transitions between the trade winds, namely April, May, September and October, as some of the best times to visit.
