Aman Japan

Aman’s trio of Japanese retreats—Aman Tokyo, Amanemu and Aman Kyoto—traces a beautiful arc from ultra-modern cityscapes to coastal onsen country and mossy temple forests. Together, they form a seamless journey through Japan’s contrasts: sky-high urban energy, slow coastal wellness and timeless cultural immersion.

Aman in Japan: one story, three settings

Aman’s Japan collection is anchored by three distinct properties: the urban sanctuary of Aman Tokyo, the hot-spring hideaway of Amanemu in Ise-Shima, and the forested garden retreat of Aman Kyoto. Each shares the brand’s hallmarks—minimalist design, deep respect for place and quietly intuitive service—yet expresses a different facet of Japanese culture and landscape.

  • Aman Tokyo: elevated calm above the capital’s buzzing financial district.

  • Amanemu: ryokan-inspired coastal retreat wrapped in national park and mineral-rich onsen waters.

  • Aman Kyoto: secret garden estate on Kyoto’s northern fringe, close to Kinkaku-ji and dozens of UNESCO sites.

Aman Tokyo: sky-high sanctuary in the capital

Aman Tokyo occupies the top floors of Otemachi Tower, moments from Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace, yet feels worlds apart thanks to its soaring lobby lantern, rock garden and serene, all-suite layout. Drawing from traditional Japanese residences, its 84 rooms and suites use washi paper, wood, stone and deep furo tubs, with floor‑to‑ceiling windows framing the skyline, palace gardens and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.

The Aman Spa is a destination in itself, with a 30‑metre pool, onsen-style baths, steam, sauna and treatments rooted in kampo herbal healing. From this elevated base, guests can dip easily into Tokyo’s art, food and fashion scenes, then retreat to a cocoon of quiet minimalism above the city.

Amanemu: coastal onsen serenity in Ise-Shima

Set on the shores of Ago Bay in Mie Prefecture’s Ise-Shima National Park, Amanemu reinterprets classic ryokan sensibilities—low-slung pavilions, natural materials, indoor–outdoor living—through a contemporary lens. Suites and villas come with expansive decks and private onsen baths fed by mineral-rich hot springs, overlooking pine-dotted islets and calm, pearl-studded waters.

The 2,000‑square‑metre Aman Spa focuses on thermal bathing and seasonal wellness immersions, drawing on Japanese bathing culture and local botanicals. Days unfold slowly here: soaking in your own onsen, cycling or walking through the national park, visiting Ise Grand Shrine, and dining on omakase-style menus featuring Mie’s famed Matsusaka Wagyu and ultra-fresh seafood.

Aman Kyoto: secret garden by the Golden Pavilion

Hidden in a forested valley in Kyoto’s Takagamine district, Aman Kyoto sits in a 72‑acre landscape once envisioned as the gardens of a textile museum. Stone paths weave through mossy clearings, streams and centuries-old trees, while light-filled pavilions and suites open onto private gardens and forest views.

The resort lies a short distance from Kinkaku-ji and other key temples, yet it feels like a private world, ideal for pairing cultural sightseeing with contemplative downtime. Onsen-style baths, a serene spa and kaiseki-driven cuisine celebrate Kyoto’s seasonality, while curated experiences—from tea ceremony and calligraphy to Zen meditation with resident monks—connect guests to the city’s artistic and spiritual heritage.
