Upon arrival, we will transfer to your hotel to settle in after a long journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may have time to explore the city at your own pace or get a taste for the vibrant culinary scene in Lima.

Explore Lima’s historic centre (UNESCO). Start from Plaza de Armas’ Cathedral, Archbishop’s Palace and Government Palace. Continue to Santo Domingo Monastery (Lima’s oldest church with interesting relics) and Casa Aliaga (reportedly the continent’s oldest home and still family-owned after 17 generations). Sample local street foods such as Limeño bites as you continue to panoramic city view from a bell tower, roam the colonial and modern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores.

Thereafter, we visit Larco Museum which houses the country’s most extensive pre-Columbian art collection before concluding at the Bohemian coastal neighbourhood of Barranco, famed for its artist studios, open-air market, 19th-century plazas and casonas.

Constructed with sillar, Arequipa is dubbed as the ‘White City’. Visit the extraordinary Santa Catalina Convent. Its architectonic style is mainly colonial, but of a Mestizo nature and once housed 450 nuns. Next to it is La Compania de Jesus Church with its sacristy and vivid murals. Stop in the upscale Yanahuara neighbourhood with its cobblestone avenues and old ashlar stone mansions.

After lunch at a popular picanteria, continue to the Museum of Andean Sanctuaries to see the Juanita Mummy. The discovery of this child-mummy gives the world an insight into the ritual of sacrifice to the Apus, the mountain gods by the mysterious Inca civilisation.

Rise early for a scenic 4.5-hour road trip via Pampa Cañahuas at Aguada Blanca National Reserve dotted with Vicuñas, Alpaca and Guanco herds. Ride along Chucura Volcanic Crater, Tocra’s lakes with its migrating birds and the altiplano. Reaching Mirador de los Andes in Patapampa (4,900m), enjoy a lookout point of snow-capped volcano peaks. Arrive in Chivay town where pre-Columbian terraces are still cultivated by the natives.

Travel to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint to see these majestic birds. Enjoy a 1-hour canyon walk with panorama of the 3,180-metre deep canyon. Continue to Antahuilque viewpoint to appreciate the magnitude of the 1,500-year-old terraces constructed by the Collaguas. Visit Maca Village, an Andean community that experienced earthquake in the November of 1991, and Yanque Village with its colonial churches and valley terraces.

Embark on a 6-hour journey along the Andean altiplanos. Along a paved highway, appreciate the high plateau sceneries, stone forest, rustic town and Lagunillas’ natural lagoon. Visit Sillustani, home to the best-preserved funerary towers, a pre-Incan burial ground offering archaeology and history in a stunning natural setting.

Board a private motor boat across the world’s highest navigable lake into the floating Tortora reed island of Uros and Llachon, a lesser-visited Quechua community. Enjoy authentic village walks, taste local cuisine, visit family houses, witness the farming and weaving activities of the locals (may vary if you stay at Titilaka).

OPTIONAL: Enjoy a 10h30m train ride with PeruRail Titicaca or a 1-night Andes journey aboard the luxurious Belmond Andean Explorer from Puno to Cusco (departs Wed Puno-Cusco, Tue Cusco-Puno). Upon arrival in Cusco, we descend 500-600m to Sacred Valley. Enjoy Pachamanca farm lunch with fresh ingredients cooked in a traditional “earth oven”, using wood-fired stones to marinate produces underground. Afterwards, explore Pisac market and Pisac Ruins, the largest fortress city of the Incas.

OPTIONAL: After lunch, proceed to the base camp where you will meet your specialist guide and climb 400m Via Ferrata (or trek up the mountainside which includes ziplines) to your transparent Sleeping Pod secured to the cliffside. Settle in for a delectable dinner with wine and enjoy a view of million stars above you before descending by heart-pumping zipline the next morning. (Note: Min. age 18, max. weight 120kg; no shower facilities; please bring your own water bottle and a small bag with comfortable clothes, long pants, hiking shoes, thermal jackets/clothes, toothbrushes and toothpastes.)

Today, you will marvel at the circular Inca terraces at Moray, designed as an experimental farm to optimally grow different species. Enjoy a mother earth to table lunch experience. Learn about the daily life of local farmers, explore the nearby hills to collect local plants used for diverse medicinal, utilitarian and aromatic purposes, proceed to a research centre to sample chocolates and other unique creations at a distillation lab. Conclude with a creative lunch menu of high-altitude ecosystems (opens Tue-Sun).

Thereafter, we make a short excursion to Mara Salt Mines. These salt-mines have been used since Inca time in the Tahuantinsuyo. You may see the local people demonstrate the ancient techniques of salt mining by hand to visitors. Return to Urubamba and enjoy some free time for optional hiking or lodge activities.

Depart early to Ollantaytambo archaeological site, which shows the best example of city planning done by the Incas. Its excellent construction with its strong walls was both a temple and a fortress. Afterwards, take a comfortable, scenic tourist train to Machu Picchu with boxed lunch onboard. (OPTIONAL: Upgrade to the luxurious Belmond Hiram Bingham Train with cocktails and gourmet meals.)

Upon arrival, proceed to enjoy a tour of the ruins. Spend a night in Machu Picchu to explore the iconic site in the evening and early morning when the masses of tourists are gone!

You have the whole morning to explore Machu Picchu in further depth or the open-air market at Aguas Calientes with Andean curios and clothing. For the energetic ones, climb to the Sun Gate or Huayna Picchu with stunning bird’s eye view of the site (please book in advance as extra ticket is needed) before boarding a scenic train back to Cusco.

Explore the exotic Inca capital of Cuzco (UNESCO). Walk through the vibrant bazaar and main streets with the Inca walls. Enter the Cathedral with beautiful cedar wood carvings such as the choir and the Pulpit, as well as the paintings of Cuzco School, and some silver objects.

Continue to the Sun Temple (Santo Domingo Church), one of the few places with both Spanish and Inca stonework in one complex. Continue to the huge stone construction of Sacsayhuaman Fortress, blessed with a great cosmic energy, thus believed to be an astronomic observatory and an Incan oracle.

OPTIONAL: Advanced reservation at delicious Cusco restaurants, gaining epicurean nods in recent years with its unique techniques which tap on local natural and nutritious ingredients.
