Starting from the “Spring City” of Kunming, we embark across the Red River Valley into the wild luxury tent amidst 10,000 terraced mu fields. Discover primitive local culture far from the urban bustle, marked by the spectacular masterpiece of Hani people’s spectacular rice fields.
The tour will conclude in Jianshui Ancient City, known as the Han cultural centre in the Southwest Border, often times dubbed as an “Ancient Building Museum” and “Folk House Museum”.

– Nov-Apr: Water-filled terrace reflecting colourful sunrise/sunset
– Jun-Aug: Rice terraces are at their greenest
– Sep: Rice terraces turn golden and it’s harvest time
Arriving at Kunming Changshui International Airport, take a private car to the hotel. Dubbed the “Spring City”, this Yunnan capital is famous for its history and cultural relics. The evening is free at leisure.
Drive 270km/5h to Honghegu. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your glamping tent hidden in Shitouzhai archaeological ruins adjacent to one thousand mu terraces of Honghe Hani. You can experience the pounded glutinous rice cake, embroidery handicraft or spa. All rooms are equipped with massage pools and the starry night sky is fantastic.
We dedicate the day to explore the ancient Hani village of Meidong. Walk along the rice terraces, catching fishes and soaking in the beautiful sunset.
Drive 70km/3h to Yuanyang, blessed with 170,000 mu terraces along the core Honghe Hani Terrace area. Stop at Jingkou Folk Village for its strong primitive culture, Dayutang’s fishpond terraces, Quanfuzhuang Village’s mushroom residences, spectacular tea field scenery at the back mountain of Mali Village, Luomadian Terrace’s panoramic view of terraced villages and river valley, the ever-changing colour of Duoyishu Terrace and spectacular red glow sunset over Bada Terrace.
Start at Azheke Village, an ancient Hani village set on the hillside of Ailao Mountain. Continue 70km/3h to Jianshui. Traces of human activities were detected as early as the Paleolithic age here. Explore the 100-year-old meter-gage railway with optional train ride to Linan (at own expense). Conclude with an unmissable sunset at Shuanglong Bridge.
Start at Zhujia Garden. The house and ancestral hall was built by Zhu Weiqing, a squire of the late Qing Dynasty. Continue to Jianshui Confucian Temple (Yunnan’s largest and most complete Confucian temple) and ancient Daban Well (dubbed “the First Well in Southern Yunnan”). Visit Xianghuiqiao Station with its French-inspired style and Tuanshan, a quintessential, well-preserved Han Nationality traditional family village.
Drive 180km/3.5h back to Kunming. Visit Dounan Flower Market, the largest fresh cut flower market in Asia. Enjoy free time before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
