Delve into the Tunisian culture and expansive history of Tunisia, once part of the Roman and Ottoman Empire, and later colonized by French before gaining independence in 1956. Explore its diverse landscape, from Sahara Desert to mountain oases to the gorgeous Mediterranean coastline, as well as the various old cities listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Centre.
Step back in time as you set foot into the UNESCO-listed Amphitheatre of El Jem, which is one of the oldest and best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world.

Upon arrival in Tunis, transfer to your hotel. Begin with a brief city tour of Tunis, the capital and largest city of Tunisia. Drive through Avenue Habib Bourguiba the central throughfare in the new city from the Tunis Clock Tower to the Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul.
After breakfast, we will head to the UNESCO-listed archaeological sites of Carthage. Visit the Antonin Roman Baths, Byrsa Hill, and Tophets. Proceed to the picturesque Sidi Bou Said Moorish village, perched on top of a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, known for its white-washed houses with contrasting blue doors and windows.
This afternoon, take a domestic flight to Tozeur, a city on the borders of the Atlas and the Sahara Desert. Check-in to your luxurious desert hotel.
Embark on an adventure today as we have a full day in Tozeur and its neighbouring Chebika and Tamerza mountain oases, and in addition experience a camel ride in the desert.
After lunch, we will drive slightly more than an hour to Ong Jmel, which means “Camel Head”, a sandstone formation that resembles the upper body of a camel. Afterward, take an hour drive to the Medina (Old City) of Tozeur that is surrounded by beautiful stone walls.
We will drive approximately 5 hours to El Jem and visit the El Jem Museum. Next, be awed by the remarkable UNESCO-listed El Jem Colosseum that is the oldest and most well-preserved Roman amphitheatres and the second largest in the world.
Later, drive about 1.5 hours to Kairouan, a UNESCO World Heritage Centre as well as one of the most celebrated cities in the Islamic World for dinner and check-in to your hotel.
After breakfast, see the impressive Great Mosque of Kairouan, also known as Sidi Okba Mosque, the oldest and holiest mosque in North Africa. Subsequently, drive 1.5 hours to the seaside town Monastir and visit the well-preserved Ribat of Monastir, the oldest fortress built by the Arab conquerors of the Maghreb. Then, keep your eyes peeled for the golden dome of Bourguiba Mausoleum.
Continue your journey to Sousse, a major port even before Carthage was founded. Over the centuries, Sousse has been inhabited by the Romans, Byzantines, Normans, and Spaniards. Visit the Sousse Archaeological Museum as well as the Medina of Sousse, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thereafter, return to Kairouan with about 1.5-hour drive.
This morning, drive 2.5 hours to another noteworthy UNESCO World Heritage site Dougga, one of the best-preserved ancient Roman sites in North Africa, which comprised of a Capitol, theatre, forum, and Roman baths built in the second century.
After lunch, we will continue driving 1.5-hour further north-west of Tunisia to the archaeological site of Bulla Regia, an ancient Roman settlement with subterranean villas. Thereafter, another 1.5 hours’ drive brings us back to Tunis.
Today, explore the UNESCO-listed Medina of Tunis, a historical core containing about 700 monuments, including palaces, mosques, mausoleums, madrasas, and fountains. Stroll through the cobblestone streets and alleys of this centuries-old city. After lunch, hone your haggling skills for handicrafts and souvenirs in the souks.
Free at leisure till your transfer to the airport for your flight home.
