This program brings you across quaint villages at Yarlung Tsangpo valley, the matsutake-rich Lulang area with its Switzerland-like scenery, Tibet’s largest ancient glacier at Laigu area, sunset at the pilgrimage temple of Xiudeng, as well as excursions to alpine lakes of postcard-perfect Basong Tso and the little-known Duosong Tso.
Please note that Tibet is closed for foreigners during March. In winter, some remote areas may not be reachable during heavy snow period.
Arriving in Nyingchi Mainling Airport, we will transfer to your boutique village hotel at Yarlung Tsangpo valley with magnificent view of Namcha Barwa peak. Take an easy rest for the day as your body acclimatize to the high altitude.
For foreigners, we recommend adding one night in Chengdu to arrange your Tibetan permit. We can also arrange pre-trip extension in Sichuan area for fantastic sceneries and panda encounters.

Enjoy excursion to the remote Suosong, Yusong and Dalin villages at the Yarlung Tsangpo valley. The Yarlung Tsangpo is the world’s deepest canyon. It is beautiful for all seasons, but especially stunning during the peach flower spring bloom (15 Mar-10 Apr).

Drive 45m/34km to the scenic Buddha Palm Dunes for a short hike. Thereafter, continue 3h/135km to Lulang via Sejila Mountain Pass (4,728m) where you can see the easternmost Himalayan peaks such as Namcha Barwa and Jala Bailei. Pass through the Lulang Sea of Flowers, dubbed the Switzerland of Tibet with its snow-capped mountains, cattle-dotted meadows and lush 80% forest coverage. Tonight’s dinner feast is Lulang Stone Pot Chicken with Tricholoma matsutake, an iconic Tibetan dish due to the rich spread of matsutake mushroom in the Lulang forest area.

If you feel like it, rise early for morning acclimatization hike to Zhaxigang Village (1-2h) at the foot of Jialabailei Summit. Thereafter, transfer 6h/287km to your hotel near Laigu area. Blessed with stunning views from 4,200m above sea level, your lodge is equipped with state-of-the-art oxygen concentrator technology to achieve 24h closed oxygen supply.

Head to Duosong Tso, a secret holy lake off the tourist trail blessed with pristine forest, blue lake and snow-capped peaks. Continue with Laigu glacier trek, Tibet’s largest ancient blue glacier fed by Rawu Lake and Parlung Tsangpo river. One of the glacier tongues stretch 12km and over 70 families with half-nomad, half-agricultural lifestyle resides along Rawu Lake. Conclude with sunset at Xiudeng Temple, a Gelug Sect temple built 500 years ago and pilgrims from nearby villages take kora around this temple ruins daily.

Drive 3.5h/192km along snaking river and dense forest with photo stop at Tongmai Bridge to Bome area. This afternoon, experience village life by Guxiang Lake. Bome area is known as the Tibetan barn for its high-altitude tea, wheat, barley, canola flower, morel and pine mushrooms.
Altitude: 4,200m > 2,700m
Enjoy day trip to Zhuxi Glacier and 400-year-old Pulong Temple. If you happen to visit in peach blossom season, the road to the glacier is blessed with over 200,000 peach trees and we can stop at Bome Peach Blossom Village (15 Mar-10 Apr). Enjoy afternoon Palong Zangbo river hike to the rare spruce forest (1.5h). The relatively warm, subtropical alpine climate allows the firs and spruces to grow up to 80m for over 180 years old.

Drive 4h/230km to your hotel in Nyingchi area, beautifully embraced alongside scenic Himalayan mountain. Take a rest for the day to enjoy the fantastic surroundings and hotel facilities.

Enjoy excursion to Basong Tso, which translates to “green water” in Tibetan. Take a boat ride with Tsodzong Monastery visit. Set on a tiny islet resembling Slovenia’s Lake Bled, it belongs to the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism.

After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for your onwards flight.
